Behind The Lens: Greetings From Jay

Capturing Memories with Lambertville Jay Photography

Behind The Lens: About Jay

What began as a casual search for a new hobby quickly transformed into a deep, personal passion. Photography started as a creative outlet—but over time, it’s become something far more meaningful: both my profession and my therapy.

Entirely self-taught, I’ve developed my craft through curiosity, experimentation, and a relentless drive to improve. Today, I work with clients who are not only my neighbors, but also based in cities and countries around the world.

My projects span a wide range—capturing milestone moments like a surprise proposal, documenting the full menu of a newly opened restaurant, or delivering advertising imagery that can define a brand’s critical fourth-quarter performance. Whether it’s a private memory or a high-stakes campaign, I bring the same intention to every frame: to create images that are real, resonant, and lasting.

My style is honest, cinematic, and always centered on storytelling. I’m not just here to document how something looks—but to capture how it feels.

Because when done right, a single photo can say everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes.  Whether you’re updating your LinkedIn, representing a brand, or making a memorable first impression, your headshot should speak volumes. I specialize in four distinct styles of headshots, tailored to fit your personal or professional needs: In-Studio Headshots - Clean, polished, and timeless. Lifestyle Headshots -  Natural, relaxed, and authentic.  Commercial Headshots -Dynamic and brand-focused.

No matter your profession or purpose, I’ll help you feel comfortable in front of the camera and bring out the best version of you.

My photography doesn’t fit neatly into a single box—and I like it that way. Over the years, I’ve built an extensive portfolio that spans food & drink, product, lifestyle, professional sports, and corporate headshots. My work has landed on magazine covers, filled feature articles, powered advertising campaigns (both print and digital), and helped shape the visual identity of brands big and small.

From high-energy sports moments to perfectly plated meals, I bring the same attention to detail, creativity, and professionalism to every shoot. I’ve worked with pro athletes, local businesses, national brands, and just about everything in between.

And just to clear it up: I’m not a wedding photographer. It’s just not my thing. That said, I have done a bit of lifestyle wedding photography when the right opportunity came along—but it’s definitely not my main gig.

If you’re looking for photography that adapts to your needs without sacrificing quality or creativity, you’re in the right place.

. No. Maybe.

It should be a simple answer, but sometimes it’s a bit more layered. In most cases, the short answer is yes—you can buy one of my photos. The exception is when a photo was taken specifically for a client. In those situations, the image usually belongs to them, but more often than not, I have an alternate version that is available for licensing.

And speaking of buying photos—what you’re likely looking for is a license to use a photo for a specific purpose. That could be personal use (like hanging it in your home) or commercial use (like featuring it on your website or in an ad campaign).

Can you outright buy a photo? Occasionally, yes. But be warned—that option tends to come with a higher price tag, and for most people, licensing is the more practical (and affordable) route.

Not sure which applies to you? Just reach out—I’m happy to help figure it out.

Nope. Not even close.

Just because a photo is online doesn’t mean it’s free game. The moment a photo is taken, it’s automatically protected by copyright law—and that includes anything I post. Whether it’s watermarked, signed, or not, I still own the rights.

Using someone else’s photo without permission (even if you “just found it on Google”) is copyright infringement. And thanks to the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), photographers and creators have legal tools to protect their work.

That means if a photo of mine is used without permission, I can file a DMCA takedown notice to have it removed from websites, social media platforms, or wherever it was used improperly. In some cases, it can also lead to legal and financial consequences for the person who used it.

If you see a photo you love and want to use it, just ask. Most of the time, licensing it legally is easy, affordable, and avoids a whole lot of hassle.

Respect the work. Respect the rights.

Absolutely not—unless I have your full permission.

Many of the images you see on my website or social media come from creative collaborations—often with models, stylists, or fellow creatives—intentionally designed for public sharing. These sessions are crafted to explore specific looks, moods, or styles and are shared with everyone’s full awareness and consent.

Other featured images come from clients who want their photos shared for additional brand visibility or exposure—and in those cases, it’s a collaborative decision.

But when it comes to your session, your privacy comes first. Always. Whether it’s a personal milestone, a private event, or internal branding work, your images are never shared without your explicit approval.
